Piranha Club Initiation

This is a great example of a very STUPID drink! The only way a drink like this will impress your friends is if they’re looking for the cocktail equivalent of a bottle of knockout drops. That said this IS a surprisingly well balanced cup of citrusy rum.

A visual spectacle (as any layered drink is) the Piranha Club Initiation (or just The Initiation) certainly seems like a “dare” awaits you for your first sip. With the aroma at the front of your choice dark rum, you can only imagine the layers of flavor to come. Deciding to go with a Black Seal over my usual Kraken, you start with a strong and rich rum flavor and move to a smooth citrus blend with a sweet finish inviting you back for more (which isn’t a good idea at all). Overall it’s actually a fairly well balanced drink if not a little strong on the edges (and in the middle too for that matter).

The Initiation is actually worth a try for it’s great blend of rum and juice…provided you don’t drink more than one of them in a night.

Mediterranean Freeze

Today’s blending cocktail is probably my favorite thus far for the week. The Mediterranean Freeze is an interesting color, but is well complemented by the garnishes. The opening aroma is very orange-y making for a very inviting drink. It starts off with the taste of a basic screwdriver (vodka and OJ), then moves to a sour citrus, then finishes with a subtle melon that keeps you going back for more. I wouldn’t say that the peach schnapps is lost in this drink, but it does lend itself to the overall sweetness in the first few sips. This is really solid blending cocktail and worth making again, perhaps in a larger quantity for a party.

Alien Brain Hemorrhage

Today we’ve got a pretty (in)famous shooter. It has a nice citrus and peach taste but a VERY crazy texture on the way down as you get some weird separation between the grenadine and Irish cream.

Not sure what I mean, then check out this special bonus episode of the show: Halloween Episode

Alien Brain Hemorrhage

3/4 oz Peach Schnapps
1/2 oz Irish Cream
1/4 oz Blue Curacao
Dash Grenadine (Syrup)

Layer in a shot glass. Add a few drops of Grenadine for “Hemorrhaging Effect.”

Dream of Love

Need a sweet drink for your special someone this Valentine’s Day? Why not make her (or him) a Dream of Love. Sweet, not too dry, tropical, and smooth.

Cayman Cocktail

Well with most of the country in a deep freeze I find myself looking for something a little more tropical. Here’s a drink that will warm you up inside (although most drinks will), to stave off the chill that lingers just out the front door.

Cayman Cocktail

1 1/2 oz Vodka
1 1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
1/2 oz Orange Juice
1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz Grenadine

Shake all with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Splash with Sprite or 7UP.

Debutante

What another drink this week!? Yep here comes another recipe so good I couldn’t let it wait until next week. Taste wise the drink reminds me of a “Jade” (recipe on the menu page). You don’t really taste the peach here, but you get a nice sweet/sour taste with a little mint afterward. This is a great use of Tequila, and I’m really happy that it’s the first Tequila drink here at MoM.

Debutante

1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
1/2 oz White Creme de Menthe (Peppermint Schnapps used)
1 1/2 oz Sweet ‘n’ Sour

Shake and Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Optional Garnish with a Lemon Twist

Fruitti Tutti

Well last Wednesday I posted up the new episode of the show which featured a Fruity drink that simple, sweet, and not too hard. Be sure to check out the Episode 3 over on the show page.

Fruitti Tutti

1/2 oz Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 oz Midori
Splash of Cranberry Juice

Shake all ingredients together and strain into a rocks glass

Red Demon

Today’s Drink is not only on schedule, but is a potent blast of berry flavor. The Red Devil is one of those dangerous mixes, like the “Long Island Iced Tea,” which is sure to get you plastered if you’re not drinking lightly. This variation is a half recipe of the Red Devil. that I’m calling the “Red Demon.” The plus to the Red Demon is that it will fit in a pint glass. The Red Devil will not, you’ll have to find something bigger.

Red Demon
3/4 oz Peach Schnapps
3/4 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Sloe Gin
3/4 oz Southern Comfort
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz Orange Juice
Dash of Grenadine

Shake all with ice, serve into an half iced pint glass. (For Red Devil find something big enough or serve in two pints)

I figured the Majora’s Mask glass fit the theme of “Demon” quite well.

*Update: This drink makes the potency of a Long Island Iced Tea look mild. Watch how fast you’re downing this one.

Liquid Autumn

Well now that November is upon us I decided to make the original shot…

“The Liquid Autumn”

2 Parts Peach Schnapps
1 Part Spiced Rum

The shot in layered form has a the initial taste of spiced rum with a sweet aftertaste or the peach. If you’re looking for an even sweeter finish add a dash of grenadine, then layer on the Peach Schnapps and Spiced Rum (in that order, as higher proof ingredients are “lighter” in density).

Spiced Start with a smooth finish.

In addition to this week’s drink, I’ll be starting “Medium of Mixology: The Show.” Hopefully to be the first Wednesday of each month to bring the blogĀ  to life (…with a vlog). Check out the “Show” page this Wednesday (and each first of the month) for the new episode(s).
